smallworld: Connect With Other Incoming MBAs

Do you want to get a jumpstart on creating high quality connections with classmates prior to starting at Ross in August? Consider joining smallworld!

What is smallworld?

smallworld is a platform started by a medical student at the University of Michigan who was struggling to connect with his classmates outside of lecture. He created smallworld as a way to facilitate those connections.

How does it work?

smallworld randomly pairs with you a peer to meet for a one-on-one interaction. The pair finds a time that works best for them to meet either virtually via Google Hangouts or Skype for an hour to get to know one another. We will provide a couple of questions for you to get the conversation flowing for each of your smallworld interactions.

Personal Testimonials

The MBA Class of 2020 began using smallworld this past year to get to know their peers outside of the classroom. Through smallworld chats, students have been able to connect on a deeper level and build meaningful connections with their classmates. Here is what students had to say:

"smallworld formalized something that is otherwise a bit awkward. It forced me to meet people in my class that I probably never would have, and eventually became something I looked forward to. Those initial conversations evolved into close friendships, and opened me up to so many different cultures and backgrounds. I HIGHLY encourage taking advantage of this resource!"
- Justin Long, MBA1 from New York

"smallworld allows me to meet people in other sections and I really enjoy learning about my classmates. It also gives me the opportunity to share my background and culture with my fellow classmates."
- Shoko Wadano, MBA1 from Japan

"smallworld allows you to dedicate time to talk about other things in someone's life that are beyond school and recruiting. It also allows you to get to know your classmates on a deeper level."
- Emma Mayville, MBA1 from Boston

"smallworld has been a very good way of connecting with Rossers I had not had the chance of meeting through other events or clubs. I’ve made a few really good connections over the past year via smallworld and look forward to meeting new people...."
- Sankalp Damani, MBA1 from India

"Every encounter I had through smallworld was extremely intentional and thought-provoking. I really encourage everyone to participate in smallworld if you want to know who's the human behind your MBA classmates and to expand your network."
- Fernando Palhares, MBA1 from Brazil
