Before the Program Begins

Power Adaptor

Please note that in the US, you will need 110V power. Be sure to bring enough adapters for all of your electronics.

Anti-virus Software

Before arriving in the US, you must install or update your current anti-virus software. The university offers free anti-virus software at safecomputing.umich.edu/antivirus.

Calculator

A financial calculator is required for the accounting and finance courses.

If you do not have one, purchase one now. Any type of financial calculator that is able to calculate the time value of money is adequate. In addition, for the statistics course, also consider a calculator that has square root and factorial functions. Although all calculations for the statistics course can be done in Excel, you might consider buying a calculator to use in class, for quizzes, and for the final exam.

Excel Statistical Package

The Statistics core course involves extensive use of Microsoft Excel, and in particular the data-analysis tool pack (a native Excel add-in). The use of each tool will be discussed in class, but basic familiarity (such as copy and paste, entering formulae) with Microsoft Excel is assumed. Students can use either Excel 2013 (preferred) or newer. If you have a Mac, you need to have Office 2016 for Mac in order to run regression. Be sure that you have the tool installed.

MCard

The University of Michigan will issue an identification card known as an MCard. It is a picture identification card that displays your name, uniqname, and your UMID.

To create your MCard, we need your photo. Please send a color portrait style photo file to [email protected] ASAP. The photo file size should be minimum 250K to ensure the quality of the photo.

For the photo, business attire is strongly recommended and your face should be forward looking and centered. The photo will also be used by the professors for classroom seating charts and for a student photo directory. Your MCard will be created and then delivered to you at the orientation.

Resume

Resumes of every student will be compiled into a directory and provided to faculty and students at the beginning of the program. We will use the resume you submitted along with your application.

If you would like to replace the resume submitted with your application with an updated version, please send the updated resume to [email protected] by Jan. 9.

We strongly encourage a one-page format. No changes will be made to the guide after Jan. 9.

Personal Profile

After logging into iMpact, the Ross School of Business intranet, you will be able to update your iMpact Personal Profile at www.bus.umich.edu/impact/profile.

Be sure to load your picture and resume data into your Personal Profile. Ross supports an online Photo Directory—it is an essential tool that your classmates, professors, staff and alumni use for a variety of purposes including networking and class seating charts. It is very important for all members of the community to be represented in the directory.

Elective Courses

Now is the time to begin thinking about the areas you wish to explore through the two terms of elective courses. To carefully plan your curriculum, begin reviewing course descriptions on iMpact and getting feedback from alumni. You will begin to select your courses for the fall term in March, so we recommend that you review course selections now.

Course descriptions can be found at www.bus.umich.edu/CourseManagement/CourseDescriptions.asp.

Course syllabi from the last two years are available at www.lib.umich.edu/kresge/syllabi/ksaSearch.php.
