Getting Online

Uniqname

The first step is replacing your “Friend account” with a University of Michigan online account and email address.

• Your uniqname (pronounced “unique name”) is your permanent login once you enroll at Ross. You can access all of the resources you had with your Friend account in addition to other U-M resources, including secure websites, your email account, research databases, and more.

• After you submit your enrollment deposit form, you will receive a one-time identifier (OTID) and instructions on how to create your uniqname.

• To access U-M’s Web resources, you must have a password that is associated with your uniqname. This password is known by many names: uniqname password, Kerberos password, university password, and ITS password. You should create your own password when you receive instructions on how to create your uniqname.

Accessing Your U-M Email Account

The University of Michigan provides each student with an email account managed by Google.

The most efficient way to access your U-M mailbox is by pointing your Web browser to email.umich.edu. Once you log in using your uniqname and password, you can access other Google apps (like Calendar and Drive) by clicking the grid icon next to your name in the upper right corner.

Before You Arrive

Review Computing Services’ arrival checklist for a complete list of technology-related requirements and suggestions designed to ease your transition. You must bring a current-generation laptop computer with wireless capabilities, and a standard set of software to support curriculum and personal communication needs.

The Technology tab in iMpact, the Ross intranet, is the ideal place to familiarize yourself with the school’s computing services. Visit the Technology tab to view Ross' laptop specifications before you purchase a laptop to ensure you arrive on campus with the right equipment.

Mobile Computing on Campus

Ross has a mobile computing environment optimized for student laptops. The school’s wireless network (MWireless-Ross) combines the mobility of wireless with the performance and security of a traditional wired network. Most current-generation wireless technology will give you access to all the school’s resources. The Ross Helpdesk is available to assist you with laptop troubleshooting as it relates to the Michigan Ross environment.

Printing

You can print your documents at Ross from your laptop by using MPrint or installing Follow Me Printing. You can also use printers for copying and scanning.
