Benjamin Dresser

Benjamin Dresser

Class of 2022

I’ve always learned by doing. I began my career in film production without formal training and developed creative skills on the job. I soon realized, in order to make things happen, I also had to develop some familiarity with business. I had to learn how to manage projects, how to lead teams, how to budget, and manage money. As I mastered these skills, I became more and more interested in the business side of creative work. This interest culminated in accepting a leadership position at a start-up creative studio.

The company was experiencing significant growth, and I realized shortly after I joined I needed to prioritize my development as a leader. I’d long considered pursuing and MBA but felt like my background was too non-traditional. But, confronted with the need to grow, I decided to go for it.

I chose Ross because I’m a kinetic learner, and I wanted to expand my perspective of business beyond the small/mid-size creative companies I’ve known. There’s action-based learning woven through every aspect of the program. I’m building relationships with a cohort of peers from a wide array of companies and backgrounds. And, I’m able to connect with alumni and faculty given me unique perspectives from their industries and areas of study.

I’d love to chat if you have any questions about Ross – especially if you've non-traditional background.
