I started my career in commercial real estate in Cleveland, Ohio as a Management Trainee in an 18-month rotational program at DDR (now called Site Centers). Equipped with a liberal arts degree and little exposure to the world of fiscal modeling, I expected to gravitate towards a non-financial role at the company. I instead found my niche (and eventually my role) in the Asset Management department producing financial forecasts for our shopping centers and evaluating the potential returns of redevelopment opportunities. Eventually I shifted to a new company in a capital markets-geared role at Bellwether Enterprise helping to secure financing for commercial properties.
I knew that in order to pursue a successful career in commercial real estate finance and, more importantly, to feel confident in my ability to lead a team, it was critical to obtain a formal business background and learn how to make financially sound decisions under pressure. This desire coupled with my interest in exploring alternative industries led me to take my GMAT and search for suitable MBA programs.
In examining which program would be the right fit, Ross stood out immediately. Although I am open to seeing what other opportunities are out there, I still have a passion for real estate and didn’t want to press pause on my career. The Weekend MBA program allows me to apply lessons learned in classes in real time and continue to gain valuable work experience, a benefit that I believe encompasses Ross’ action-based learning. The attributes of the program itself were supplemented by the worldwide alumni network and unmatched sense of pride and excitement evident in each Ross graduate. I am thrilled to be a part of the Michigan community and am happy to field any questions you may have about the program. Go blue!
