Welcoming the Strongest Class of Michigan Ross Students Ever
It’s my favorite time of year at Michigan Ross because campus is coming alive again, new faces are filling the halls, and new stories are about to be written.
It will be a busy month here at Ross. This week, our MBA students are working with local entrepreneurs to develop the next great food business in Detroit as part of the Ross Impact Challenge. Our Executive MBA students started last week, our Master of Management students are beginning their career prep work, and our MAcc and BBA students will arrive in a few weeks.
And, this year is particularly exciting because our MBA class is the strongest we’ve ever had! Their GMAT scores and GPAs are the highest in Michigan Ross history. And compared to 32 percent last year, women make up 40 percent of the class – a competitive percentage among our peers.
After their two years at Ross, these students will graduate as some of the strongest, most dynamic, well-rounded business leaders in the world – and will forever be part of our Michigan Ross family!
The world of business is changing – and Michigan Ross is on the leading edge.
Poets & Quants has noticed an important trend, writing recently, “A generation ago, MBAs proved themselves in their areas of expertise; then they boned up on the rest of the operation as they climbed the ladder. Now, every facet is intertwined … business expectations have shifted.”
To be successful, we must prepare the next generation of leaders to excel across functional areas. In today’s complex and dynamic business environment, leaders must not only be well versed in the core functions of business – finance, marketing, operations and the like – but our leaders must also be able to bring these functions together in ways that drive innovation. And there’s no doubt that Michigan Ross is among the best schools in the world for training leaders to span functional silos to create value for shareholders, employees, and communities.
“The true test,” the Poets & Quants article continues, “is whether a program is solid across the board. According to that criterion, three MBA programs stand out in U.S. News’ specialization ranking.”
Michigan Ross is one of those three – finishing in the top 10 in nine out of the ten categories, second only to Stanford.
This is great news for our incoming students! Michigan Ross has incredible depth and breadth of expertise. Whether it’s marketing, finance, operations, leadership, strategy, or any other dimension you want to look at, we offer our students access to world-class thought leadership and experiences that develop deep expertise. But we also challenge our students to span across these functions to create novel solutions to business’ toughest challenges and biggest opportunities.
To all of the new students starting this fall, I’m excited you’re joining us. I’m excited to be a part of your journey. Welcome to Michigan Ross, the best business school in the world.
