Arthur Yeung
As a management thought leader, Arthur’s career has spanned across academic, corporate and investment worlds. Graduated from the University of Michigan, he taught at the University of Michigan and China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). From 2004 to 2013, he taught at CEIBS as Philips Chair Professor of Human Resource Management. His outstanding teaching has been repeatedly recognized through numerous awards like “Outstanding Teaching Award”, “Most Favorite EMBA Professor Award'', and the most prestigious “CEIBS Medal for Teaching Excellence”. To help entrepreneurs and CEOs systematically learn and apply organizational capability based on his Y-Triangle framework, he is also founder and president of Y-Triangle CEO Alliance with 200+ members in the last ten years.
As a corporate executive, he served as Chief Learning Officer and subsequently Chief HR Officer of Acer Group from 1998 to 2002. Reporting directly to the Chairman & CEO, he worked closely with the top management team to radically transform Acer to meet the challenges and opportunities of new business realities.
Since 2008, he has taken on the role as Senior Management Advisor of Tencent Holdings and sits on the Executive Leadership Committee. In this capacity, he supports and facilitates organizational innovation and capability development within Tencent and with its key strategic partners such as JD.com, DiDi, Meituan Dianping, Pinduoduo, and 58.com. He also serves as Dean of TencentX, a corporate university sponsored by Tencent to offer integrated learning programs for CEOs in internet-related industries.
Starting from 2020, Arthur has embarked on a new career path in the investment field as Executive President of Cathay Capital, an VC/PE investment firm with nine offices in four continents, 150 professionals and AUM around USD 4.5 billion. In his new role, he presides over the global management and evolution of the firm, by further exploring innovative business models that push the boundaries of traditional investment practices and bring greater value to entrepreneurs, investors, and Cathay colleagues.
Author of a dozen of books and numerous articles, Dr. Yeung research interests focus on building organizational capability for strategic implementation, organizational innovation for fast changing and disruptive environments, globalization of Chinese firms, growing talent for business growth, and leading large-scale organizational transformation. His most influential books include “Reinventing the Organization” published by Harvard Business Review Press (translated into multiple languages like Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Vietnamese) and “Building Organizational Capability through Y-Triangle” (a highly influential management book in China). He also served as Global Editor (Asia-Pacific) for Talent and Strategy Journal, ex- associate editor (1995-2006) and editorial board member of Human Resource Management Journal, editorial board member of Harvard Business Review (China), Human Relations Journal, and Thunderbird International Business Review.
Having served as board member of seven listed companies, senior advisor to CEOs, and investor to numerous startups, his major source of inspiration and learning comes from interacting, coaching, and advising with CEOs and entrepreneurs in China and elsewhere. In 2020, he was awarded “Man at His Best - Business Thinker of the Year” by Esquire in China.
