How many days before the application deadline should I take the GMAT/GRE?

We recommend taking the GMAT/GRE test at least 30 days before the application deadline.Thirty days would allow enough time for the official report to reach the Office of Admissions by the application deadline.

Do you offer an Executive MBA program?

Yes, the Ross School of Business offers an Executive MBA Program structured to meet the needs of individuals in senior management roles, focusing on leadership skills needed to be successful at the executive level. Specifically, the program targets participants who have had generally 15-20 years of work experience, with significant experience in a managerial/supervisory capacity. The collective professional experience of EMBA participants enriches the learning experience both in and outside the classroom.

Can I use the services provided by the Career Services Department?

Yes, all MBA students can attend recruiting presentations, Career Services workshops, access iMpact, and use Career Services handouts, seminar videotapes, mock interviews, career consulting, and other services. Part-time MBA students can participate in the on-campus interview process for full-time recruiting during the fall term prior to graduation. However, part-time students cannot participate in on-campus interviews for internships since most part-time students work full-time and do not have the flexibility to do a summer internship.

How many weekend classes do you offer to evening students? Will there be more in the future?

This varies each year and is dependent on faculty scheduling. We explore alternative class times on an annual basis.

Do part-time MBA students participate in MAP?

Yes. The MAP course is offered for Evening MBA students in the summer term. Students should enroll after they have completed their core courses and are about halfway through their degree program.  

Can part-time students join clubs in Ann Arbor?

Yes, part-time MBA students may join student clubs. The latest list of clubs can be found online.

How can I arrange for a tour of the Ross School of Business?

Prospective students are welcome to conduct a self guided tour of the Ross facilities during regular business hours.  Learn more about visiting campus and taking a tour.  If you are coming for an Evening class visit experience, your student host will provide a brief tour on your visit date.   

Can I make an appointment to talk with someone about the Evening MBA Program?

Prospective part-time MBA students can schedule a virtual chat session with the Associate Admissions Director. Please visit our Events Page and filter by Evening MBA, and look for the events titled Part Time MBA Virtual Chat with the Admissions Director to schedule an appointment.

How long does it take to complete the part-time Evening MBA Program?

The Evening format is flexible. The typical time to degree is three to four years, but some students finish in a little over two years, while others take more than five. You determine your own pace. The program requires 60 credits and results in the Ross MBA that is valued around the world.

DO YOU HAVE TO BE EMPLOYED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PART-TIME MBA - EVENING PROGRAM?

No, current employment is not a pre-requisite for admission, but full-time work experience is considered as part of the admission process. It is generally assumed that students will continue to work full time while in the program.

DO I NEED AN UNDERGRADUATE BUSINESS DEGREE OR BUSINESS BACKGROUND TO BE ADMITTED?

No. We welcome applications from a wide variety of backgrounds and do not look for or favor specific undergraduate majors. Business classes are not required before entering the MBA Program.

HOW MUCH WORK EXPERIENCE DO I NEED BEFORE I CAN APPLY?

Student must have at least 12 months of full time work experience (post-completion of your undergraduate degree) under their belt prior to entering the MBA program, but almost all incoming Ross students have worked for at least 2+ years. The average Part Time MBA student enters with 5-7 years of work experience.

That said, we evaluate work experience not in terms of quantity, but in terms of quality. We examine the impact you have had on your organization and the leadership qualities you have demonstrated. We consider the range of stories and experiences you will be able to share with our classmates. If you have limited work experience, you should demonstrate on your application why it is the right time to pursue an MBA, and what you will be able to contribute to the Ross community.

CAN I TAKE COURSES BEFORE THE PROGRAM BEGINS?

No.

IS THE COMPLETION OF A COLLEGE-LEVEL CALCULUS COURSE A PREREQUISITE TO ADMISSION?

Ross has no prerequisite courses for admission to the MBA program. However, due to the analytical rigor of the program, it is expected that you have a working knowledge of college-level mathematics, including basic calculus. If you have not had this coursework, we recommend that you take a course that emphasizes business mathematics prior to beginning the program.

IS A THREE-YEAR UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE FROM INDIA ACCEPTABLE TO APPLY?

Yes, we will consider applicants who hold a three-year undergraduate degree from India.

CAN I APPLY AS A COLLEGE SENIOR? DOES ROSS ADMIT STUDENTS STRAIGHT OUT OF UNDERGRAD?

No, we do not accept students immediately following their undergraduate education. You must have completed your U.S. bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) at the time of your application. Students with 12 months or more of full time work experience are eligible to apply, but applicants with less than 1-2 years of work experience are very rarely admitted.

WHAT TYPE OF WORK EXPERIENCE ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS?

We seek diversity in the professional backgrounds of our admitted students, just as we do in other parts of our applicants' profiles. No one industry or field is favored over another. We are more interested in your contribution to the group or organization.

 

CAN I APPLY TO MULTIPLE MBA FORMATS (WEEKEND, EXECUTIVE, EVENING, ONLINE, FULL-TIME)?

No. You must choose between formats and may only apply to one program during any given academic calendar year.

CAN I REAPPLY IF I WAS NOT ACCEPTED PREVIOUSLY?

Yes. Reapplication procedures are streamlined if you reapply within one year. You are welcome to re-use portions of your prior year's application (such as GMAT/GRE scores or Transcripts) for your new application. Please contact the admissions office if you would like us to transfer materials forward from a prior application.

CAN I HAVE MY APPLICATION FEE WAIVED?

The application fee is waived for applicants who have served in the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, or Teach for America within three years of applying. It is also waived for current or former members of the U.S. military. We do not waive application fees for any other reason. You should request a fee waiver prior to submitting your application by creating a new support ticket and attaching proof of service in one of the above organizations. Please indicate the program to which you will be applying.

WHICH PART-TIME MBA FORMAT HAS THE HIGHEST ADMISSION RATE?

The Admissions Committee looks for the same qualifications in all formats.

DO YOU REQUIRE THE GMAT OR GRE?

Yes. The GMAT or GRE is a required component of our application. Your performance on either exam will be used as part of our assessment of your academic ability, and you are at no advantage or disadvantage by taking one exam instead of the other. We DO NOT WAIVE the standardized test score for any reason, ever.

IS THERE A MINIMUM REQUIRED GMAT/GRE SCORE AND/OR GPA?

We do not have minimum cut off scores and/or grade point averages. You are, however, always compared to the current pool of applicants.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE GMAT/GRE AND GPA?

Average GMAT scores for students admitted to the Part-Time MBA programs are typically in the range of 650-670 on the GMAT and 158-160 on the GRE. The average GPA is typically 3.3-3.4.
