One of TIME’s 100 most influential people to speak at U-M about entrepreneurship

The University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business announced today that Malcolm Gladwell will be the guest speaker of The Joseph and Sally Handleman Lecture Series. The event will take place Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in U-M’s Hill Auditorium.

Named one of TIME Magazine’s most influential people, Gladwell will present, “The Innovator's Heart: The Social Context of Entrepreneurship,” where he will discuss business creation from his unique and often provocative point of view.

"I'm excited to address the University of Michigan community," said Gladwell. "Michigan has a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and I’m looking forward to sharing my insights and challenging the community to look at the social component of innovation in an entirely different way.”

Gladwell is a New York Times bestselling author, longtime staff writer for The New Yorker, and the host of the popular podcast, “Revisionist History.” He has written five bestsellers —  The Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers, What the Dog Saw, and his latest work, David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits and the Art of Battling Giants. Through his work, Gladwell has explored an array of topics including decision making, the foundation of success, and idea sharing.

Michigan Ross launched The Joseph and Sally Handleman Lecture Series in 2013 through the generosity of the Joseph and Sally Handleman Charitable Foundation. The series features some of the nation’s top figures as they discuss hot-button topics along with their personal and professional journeys. Past speakers include Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook; Mark Fields, COO of Ford Motor Company; and Sallie Krawcheck, former CEO of Smith Barney and CFO of Citigroup. The event is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information on the series, visit http://michiganross.umich.edu/about/events/handleman-lectures.
