Michigan Ross Announces Another Year of Impressive Career Outcomes for Graduates in 2017 Employment Reports
Undergraduate class continues to earn high salaries; Amazon, McKinsey, Microsoft among those who hired the most Ross grads
The University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business added to a streak of impressive career outcomes with the release of its 2017 Employment Report this week. The report outlines career placement numbers, regions where graduates accepted jobs, industries where graduates were most in demand, and shows how Michigan Ross continues to be a worldwide leader in developing the next generation of business talent.
More than 190 companies hired Ross graduates in 2017, with Amazon topping the list of hiring companies. The tech giant hired 39 MBA and BBA graduates to full-time roles this summer. McKinsey & Co was a close second, extending 38 full-time offers across the programs.
The report shows that 97% of Full-Time MBA graduates and 98% of BBA graduates from the class of 2017 had received an offer three months after graduation.
Consulting and technology careers were again among the top fields for MBA graduates, with more than 50% of the class accepting offers in those two industries. Additionally, over 70% of MBA graduates accepted jobs on the East coast, West Coast, or in Chicago.
For 2017 BBA graduates, 38.2% accepted roles in financial services and 20.8% accepted jobs in consulting — the median base salary for graduating BBAs was $72,500. 76% of BBA graduates accepted jobs on the East coast, West Coast, or in Chicago.
The report, available now as PDF downloads for both BBA graduates and MBA graduates, covers a wide range of topics including top hiring companies, job acceptance rates by industry, and base salary numbers. The top-ranked FTMBA program produces a diverse pool of talent, as more graduates are gaining employment across multiple industries throughout the U.S.
“We are very pleased with the outcomes of the 2017 employment report,” said Heather Byrne, Managing Director of the Career Development Office at Michigan Ross. “"Recruiters are attracted to the deep pool of talented Ross graduates from all degree programs, hiring them into positions across many industries and every region of the country. The data are a testament to the high quality of our students and rigor of our programs."
Recruiters are drawn to the rigor and career-readiness of Ross graduates — a product of the school’s unique approach to experience-driven learning. In programs like the Multidisciplinary Action Projects (MAP), course, student-led investment funds, the newly launched Living Business Leadership Experience course, and the Michigan Business Challenge, students tackle real-world business challenges ranging from advising multinational organizations on strategy to launching and operating a new business unit inside a growing organization.
Through these hands-on experiences, students across degree programs are well versed in creating solutions to address complex business and social issues, from the moment they accept a job offer.
