Ross MBA Student Selected as a McGowan Fellow
Full-time MBA student named one of 10 fellows nationwide in philanthropic program that helps promote positive leadership.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business announced today that second-year MBA student Alexander Munns has been named the school’s 2014-2015 McGowan Fellow. This elite program is sponsored by the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund, a philanthropic family foundation established to honor William G. McGowan, the former CEO of MCI. The program creates a select community of highly talented, emerging business leaders who are dedicated to ethical leadership and service. The fund partners with 10, top-tier university business programs, with each school selecting one fellow annually.
At Michigan Ross, Alex's focus of study is healthcare management. He was elected Section Representative of the Ross Leadership Council and is Vice President of the Healthcare Life Sciences Symposium. He also sits on the board of Out for Business, the Ross LGBT student association. Additionally, he serves as an advisor to the Michigan Institute for Medical Innovation.
Prior to Ross, Alex held positions in the nonprofit, education and healthcare sectors. He worked in South Africa with Grassroot Soccer, a nonprofit that uses soccer to teach children about HIV prevention, and taught history as a Teach for America Corps Member in Chicago. Most recently, he worked in strategy consulting, supporting clients to commercialize novel, life-extending therapies. This summer, Alex is interning at Baxter Bioscience in the oncology commercialization area. After earning his MBA, he plans to continue working in healthcare strategy, either in a product development or commercialization role, or as an external advisor.
Alex holds a Bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a Master’s degree in teaching from Dominican University. He earned All-Ivy League honors as a varsity soccer player at Yale and has played professional soccer in Argentina, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
