Essay Questions and Deadlines for the Michigan Ross 2018-2019 MBA Application Are Now Live

Happy Spring!

It’s quiet around the halls as our MBA2s graduated at the end of April and MBA1s are engaged in a variety of cool experiences around the world before starting their internships in June. Some are taking global immersion courses in China, Germany, and Israel. Others are on a road trip across the U.S. to help small business owners solve their business challenges as part of Ross Open Road teams.

In June, they’ll start their summer internships. They’ll be everywhere from Google to Amazon to Nike and the Gates Foundation. You can meet with some of them for informal Cafe chats this summer. It’s a great opportunity to learn about Ross student life, recruiting, and the culture of the school through the eyes of students.

As for the Admissions team, we’ve already started recruiting for Fall 2019’s class. We’ve met candidates in San Francisco, D.C., Atlanta, and Boston so far. Dean DeRue has met many of you as well, during our RossTalks events with alumni and prospective students.

Join us at a Ross event in your area throughout the summer and fall here.

A couple of questions I frequently heard from candidates were:
  • “Can I visit campus in the summer?”
    • The answer is yes — we offer our Visit in Person program once in June and once in July. But there won’t be any students around or classes to sit in on, so the experience will be much different than if you visit in the fall.
  • “Are your essay questions available and what’s your Round 1 deadline?”
    • Yes! The new questions are available now. And the Round 1 app deadline is October 1. See below for more details on the small changes we made this year.

2018-19 Application Essay Questions

One of the things we heard from this year’s applicants was that they loved having the option to choose which essay prompt to respond to. So we’re keeping that feature but providing two options per short answer group rather than three. We kept the ones that seemed to provide the best platform for sharing something meaningful and unique about yourselves. We also made a minor tweak to the career goal essay to make it more straightforward, because that’s what we’re looking for — straightforward.

Here are the essay questions for next year:
