Happy Holidays: We’re Calling Round 1 MBA Admits Starting on Monday, Plus Info for Round 2 Applicants

It’s that time of year again. Round 1 decision notification time.

You may be wondering what day admit calls will start, in what order the calls will be made, and, importantly, whether your number will be on the list.

This year, I’m feeling this anxiety from “the other side” as my son (a high school senior) waits to hear from his own set of Round 1 schools. Of course, I’ve noted the dates that schools post on their websites. But we (maybe just me, not my son) are wondering whether they’ll release decisions before the posted date. Going through this process with him has also reinforced for me how important transparency and clarity of communications are.

So in that spirit, let me provide clarity on where we are with Round 1.

The team has finished reviewing applications, and we’ve submitted our decisions to the Associate Dean for review. Diana Economy and I will be meeting with him on Friday to discuss. Final decisions will be entered into our system over the weekend. Admit calls will begin on Monday for U.S.-based admits, and on Tuesday for admits based outside of the U.S.

We will leave a voicemail if we don’t catch you by phone. If you are awarded a scholarship, we will let you know on the call. If you don’t receive a call or voicemail, it means you are waitlisted or not admitted. All applicants will be able to access their decisions on Wednesday, December 19 at 12PM EST.

The team will be in touch with waitlisted applicants in early January to share an updated timeline.

Round 2 Applicants

The app deadline is Monday, January 7 at 11:59 PM EST. That means you have just over three weeks to make your application the best that it can be. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before hitting the “submit” button:

  • Is my resume clear and concise (one page)? Will someone who reads my resume understand my path, skills, knowledge, and impact? Given that this is the first thing that an admissions committee member will see, does it give a clear overview of my journey?
  • Are my essays clear and authentic (i.e., are they really me)? Do they share important and different insights into who I am?
  • Is my recommender on track for submitting my rec letter on time?
  • Is my GMAT or GRE score the best that I can do? When viewed alongside my transcript, will it sufficiently demonstrate that I can do the academic work required of MBA students?

There’s no advantage to submitting your application before the deadline so take that time to make your application the best it can be.

THAT time of year

Probably like many of you, the Admissions team is looking forward to the holiday break. The office will be closed from December 24, 2018, to January 2, 2019. Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday and new year!
