Only complete applications will be reviewed. To be considered complete, we must receive all test scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and essays.

Note: For students applying for the 2018 class, unofficial transcripts, and self-reported GMAT/GRE scores can be used for evaluation; however, once admitted the official transcript and test score report will be needed.


Requirements

Must be a student of the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute

Two letters of recommendation (One recommendation should come from a U-M faculty member, if at all possible)

 

Master of Management Shanghai Cohort Recommendation Questions

IMPORTANT: This is NOT the official letter of recommendation, but rather a list of the questions that will be sent to the individuals you identify as your recommenders in the online application. These questions are provided to help you determine whom to request to write your recommendation letters. The actual recommendation letter and ratings form must be submitted online by your recommenders. Once you register your recommenders on the application, an email will be sent to them with instructions on how to access the recommendation form and submit it electronically.

  1. How long and in what context have you known the applicant? What is the peer group you are using for your comparison?
  2. Please describe the applicant’s strengths. Provide detailed examples where these strengths were exhibited.
  3. Please comment on the applicant’s areas of development (weaknesses). What efforts has the applicant made to show improvement?
  4. How has the applicant contributed above and beyond her/his expected responsibilities?

Please feel free to provide any other information you think is relevant to our evaluation.

Master of Management Shanghai Cohort Essay Questions

  1. Describe why you want to pursue the Master of Management Shanghai Cohort at Michigan Ross. What do you expect to learn? How will you leverage this knowledge to accomplish your personal and professional goals? Describe in detail the type of employment opportunities you anticipate pursuing upon completion of the Master of Management Shanghai Cohort degree. (500 - 700 words)
  2. The Michigan Ross Master of Management Shanghai Cohort admissions committee places a high emphasis on setting and working toward goals, both academically and in your job search. Describe a medium- to long-term goal that you set for yourself and what you did to work to achieve it. The goal may be something you succeeded in attaining, or one that you did not achieve but learned from the experience of working toward.  Discuss the approaches that helped you meet or reach toward your goal.  How will you translate what you learned from this previous experience to the MM program and your job search activities? (500 - 700 words)
  3. Optional question: Is there anything not addressed elsewhere in the application that you would like the Admissions Committee to know about you to evaluate your candidacy? (500-700 words)

Prerequisite

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE

Applicants are required to submit a copy of their academic record.

If the original language of the academic record is not English, a certified English translation must accompany the original document. The translation should be literal rather than interpretive. If a certified copy of the original transcript is submitted, it must be certified by the institution from which the degree was received. Documents notarized by a Notary Public are not acceptable.

Credentials must include the following:

  • years of attendance at the academic institution
  • courses taken
  • grades received

 

Eligibility

The Michigan Ross Master of Management Shanghai Cohort is only open to University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute students.

All applicants must have completed their undergraduate degree no more than two years prior to enrolling in the MM program. The program is designed for candidates with little to no full-time work experience. Candidates with some (e.g., one year to 18 months) work experience are eligible to apply. Candidates with more work experience are encouraged to apply to our other graduate degree programs. Class profiles, program descriptions, and admission requirements for each of those programs can be found on the Programs page.
