We Crunched the Numbers: Michigan Ross Students Are Changing the World
The end of another academic year is here at Michigan Ross, and with it comes an opportunity to look at the accomplishments, outcomes, and impressive impact of our community.
When you look at the work and impact of our students while they’re at Ross, it’s hard not to be impressed. Whether it’s starting businesses, addressing complex global issues, winning competition after competition, or driving across the country to visit with small business owners and entrepreneurs to help them better address their business goals, Ross students take to heart what it means to be a leader who makes a positive difference in the world.
And from clubs to classes and amazing, immersive experiences, there’s no shortage of incredible opportunities to make an impact while at Ross – more than 100, in fact.
In just this past year, Ross students have used those opportunities to do some great things:
Working with the Tauber Institute during their 2015 summer projects, Ross MBA and MSCM students developed operational and supply chain savings for 23 sponsoring companies.

5 “Women to Watch”
Five Ross MBA students were listed as “Wolverine Women to Watch” because of their work in creating ventures that have high potential to make a positive difference in the world.
Two teams of Ross MBA students drove more than 5,000 miles this summer to meet with nine entrepreneurs in seven states to help them bring new thinking to their complex business challenges. Learn more about Ross Open Road
420 Nonprofit Boards
Ross students have been placed on 420 nonprofit boards since 2002, thanks to the Board Fellowship program at the Center for Social Impact.
169 Middle and High School Students
Ross MAcc students spent this past year teaching personal finance and entrepreneurship skills to Cornerstone middle and high school students.
Ross Weekend MBA students raised more than $47,000 for Mott Children’s Hospital this year during a graduation week campaign that kicked off a class pledge to donate at least 1% of their annual incomes to charitable causes for life.
$135,000 in grants
Given to students pursuing a social impact internship this summer through the Center for Social Impact.
placed first in the Patagonia Case Competition to help the outfitter fight pollution in its production process.
placed first and took home more than $400,000 in the Rice Business Plan Competition, the largest business plan competition in the world.
student won the international Thought for Food Competition, with a plan to help feed 9 billion people by 2050.
won the Google “Pay it Forward” contest for positively impacting their local Black communities.
took first place in the Accenture Innovation Challenge by developing a plan to help a nonprofit organization expand its reach.
won the KPMG National Case Competition, the second year in a row Ross students have placed first.
While certainly not a comprehensive list of all Ross student accomplishments this past year, it’s a testament to the powerful impact our impressive students can have on Ross and the world around us.
