Jeff Blau, BBA ’90, was just named the Real Estate Developer of the Year by Commercial Property Executive, a leading trade publication covering executives in commercial real estate.

Blau, the CEO of The Related Cos., was selected by the magazine for his work on “historic developments, landmark deals and record-breaking transactions.”

“For the past quarter century, Blau has directed and overseen new developments worth more than $20 billion in almost every sector of the real estate industry,” the magazine said.

The publication also recognized how extraordinary Blau’s accomplishments were given the realities of a turbulent year.

“A flattening yield curve, tax reform, Brexit, and the possibility of U.S. trade tariffs also fueled the need for savvy executives who are agile and quick to adapt,” it said.

Related’s portfolio includes more than $50 billion in assets, with developments in New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, South Florida, Washington D.C., Abu Dhabi, and London. The company is also one of the world’s largest affordable housing providers.

The latest development in the works by Blau and the Related team includes 18 million square feet of mixed-use real estate for the Hudson Yards project in Manhattan, and a recent project to develop modern senior living complexes in major cities.

“Our new focus on senior living represents a culmination of our efforts and now means that Related can offer best-in-class housing options for every stage of life,” Blau told CPE.

Blau has long been a supporter of Michigan Ross. In 2016, Jeff T. Blau Hall (ribbon cutting pictured above) opened on the business campus — a 104,000-square-foot academic building named in honor of his generous philanthropic support of the school, including student support and facilities.

Blau was also honored by the publication with an Honorable Mention for its Office Property Executive of the Year.

Congratulations to Jeff, and Go Blue!
