U.S. Environmental Policy Tests Corporate Leadership and Makes New Research Paramount
Professor Tom Lyon, writing in the Huffington Post, says corporate sustainability efforts are approaching a new era.
With the Trump administration shifting course on environmental policy — such as pulling out of the Paris Agreement — some businesses are stepping up to lead on sustainability efforts.
Michigan Ross Professor Tom Lyon writes in the Huffington Post that this marks a critical period for corporate sustainability leadership. It’s also a big opportunity for researchers to dive into the many unanswered questions about how and when businesses should try to influence policy.
“These answers can help managers make decisions that will raise profits while making the planet more sustainable,” writes Lyon, Dow Professor of Sustainable Science, Technology and Commerce professor of business economics and public policy. “They can also help policymakers leverage their scarce resources to have the greatest possible impact. And they can help NGOs identify the pressure points that will best bring about change.”
