Career Background

Ric Fenton is a General Partner at Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV), based in Menlo Park, California.

Founded in 1995, TCV provides capital to growth-stage private and public companies in the technology industry. Since its inception, TCV has helped guide CEOs through over 150 IPOs and strategic acquisitions. With over $20 billion of assets under management, TCV has built a track-record of backing private and public technology businesses that have developed into category-defining players across internet, software, fintech, and enterprise IT. Ric serves as Chief of TCV’s Investment Operations, bringing his transactional expertise to bear across all of TCV’s market sectors, advising and guiding the team throughout the investment process – from fund formation to deal sourcing, transaction structuring and execution, portfolio value creation and ultimately to exit. Ric also serves as the firm’s Chief Legal Officer and oversees TCV’s Legal, Capital Markets, Portfolio Optimization, Portfolio Talent and Data Intelligence functions. 

Prior to joining TCV in 2008, Ric was an attorney in the Palo Alto and New York offices of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he advised leading private equity firms, corporations, and investment banks on a wide range of M&A and securities law matters, including public and private leveraged buyouts, stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, minority co-investments, securities offerings, and PIPE financings. 

Ric received a B.B.A. from the Ross School of Business with a concentration in Finance in 1997 and a J.D. from the Duke University School of Law in 2000.
