Michael Seung Yoon Shin
Hi! I’m Mikey, a first-year MBA student pursuing a career in management consulting. I was born in Seoul, South Korea, but have lived in Ann Arbor since 2002, where I became a lifelong Michigan fan. I enlisted after high school as an Infantryman, and after three years of active-duty service I attended and graduated from West Point in 2020, commissioning back into the Infantry as an Officer. Over 12 years in the military, I served in Afghanistan, Hawaii, Korea, the 75th Ranger Regiment, and most recently The Old Guard, where I led funeral ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, including President Jimmy Carter’s State Funeral.
I chose Ross because of its collaborative culture, action-based learning, and the strong Armed Forces Association network, which made me feel at home from day one. Outside of class, I’m passionate about volunteering to serve the veteran and first responder community. I’m also an avid skydiver with 300+ jumps, currently training in wingsuit flight and aiming to soar above the Pyramids of Egypt by 2027.
I’m always happy to connect about the Michigan Ross experience, the transition from the military, or just swapping adventure stories.
