Building a Better World Through Business.

At the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, our mission inspires our community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni every day. We have clear values that guide our actions and a deliberate strategy for achieving our mission.

Our Mission

Michigan Ross is committed to building a better world through business. Through our powerful ideas, purpose-driven leaders, and positive impact, we empower business leaders to make a positive difference in the world.

Our Values

Our core values serve as guiding principles for how we lead. They represent our commitment to excellence and bringing our best selves to everything we do.

Connect & Collaborate

We are collaborative, and work together to achieve more.

Learn & Grow

We embrace a growth mindset and continuous improvement.

Do Great Things

We strive for excellence and impact.

Be An Owner

We trust and empower our people to take ownership.

Be Inclusive

We ensure that every member of our community has an opportunity to thrive.

Our Strategy

Our mission requires a bold strategy. We must unlock the potential of business by developing powerful ideas, purpose-driven leaders, and a community dedicated to making a positive impact.

Powerful Ideas

We are globally-recognized thought leaders who put our ideas into action to tackle some of the world's most important challenges. We testify before Congress on vital policy debates. We publish rigorous research that informs the most important conversations in business, such as the future of work, diversity and inclusion, technology and digital transformation, and healthcare access. We work with leading companies to apply our ideas, challenge business as usual, and create positive change in society.

Purpose-Driven Leaders

We develop purpose-driven leaders who make a positive difference. Our action-based learning curricula connect students to real-world business experiences. Our centers of excellence in leadership and positive organizations allow students to discover a deep sense of purpose. Our students launch successful startups through our Zell Lurie Institute, improve the resiliency of local business through our +Impact Studio, and successfully manage the first-ever, student-run social venture fund.

Positive Impact

We are making important contributions to the global impact economy. Our community partners with organizations to solve real-world challenges, generate prosperity, and create a positive impact. Throughout Detroit and southeast Michigan, students provide consulting support to small businesses and nonprofits through initiatives like our Detroit Accounting Days and Detroit Impact Conference. Faculty and students have also played a critical role in the city of Flint, developing water infrastructure technology that is serving communities across the nation. And in partnership with the William Davidson Institute, our students and faculty are improving prosperity in emerging markets around the world.
