The Business of Art --- This course will examine the economics of the art market and the way that museums acquire art. Student teams will be responsible for identifying works of art that would make appropriate additions to the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) collection, and a strategy for acquiring one or more of those works. Working with the advice of UMMA curatorial staff, one or more of these works will be acquired using the agreed strategy and will become part of UMMA's permanent collection.
Because this course has two off-campus trips, this course requires instructor permission to enroll. One trip is daylong trip to Detroit and a weekend (2-night) trip to Chicago.
