The Modern Music Business --- This course is designed for students interested in the opportunities created by digital disruption and its effects on the music and entertainment business. We will begin by examining the traditional music industry, discussing where it is today and where it is going with new technology (i.e., streaming, AI,). How we listen to music, watch videos/TV/movies, consume our news, and interact with others continues to change faster and more unpredictably. This class focuses on why an entrepreneurial mindset is essential to take advantage of these changes and where the business opportunities exist today. We will utilize case studies, guest speakers, lectures, and group work to expose and educate students on the modern music and entertainment industry, and we can apply this knowledge to other industries as well. We will start with the fundamental formation and understanding of the music industry and quickly move to real-world actions of what it takes to launch and expose an artist's music in today's new world.
