Technology and Innovation Strategy --- This course aims to help students learn how companies successfully formulate and implement a technology strategy. Throughout the semester, students analyze key questions in technology and innovation strategy using cases from companies, large and small, from a variety of industries. Building on these practical examples and academic research, students consider how to adopt strategies that can be easily adapted to the rapidly changing business environments that are prevalent in innovative industries. The course is split into two segments, the first half being dedicated to formulating technology and innovation strategies, and the second half being dedicated to implementing technology and innovation strategies. In the first half of the course, we consider topics such as defining a strategic direction, the strategy of innovation ecosystems and strategic positioning in nascent markets. In the second half of the course, we consider topics such as designing an organization to balance the needs of existing and new businesses, scaling, and crafting a deployment strategy. The course culminates in a group project, where students analyze how a company should formulate or implement a technology strategy. Students will present the findings of their project to a group of venture capitalists.
