Over many years with the Ross School of Business Executive MBA Program, I have had the pleasure and privilege of speaking with hundreds, if not thousands, of prospective students from all walks of life. From politicians and professional athletes to business leaders and practicing physicians, the backgrounds, experiences, and accomplishments of students in this program never cease to amaze me. However, I’m also just as surprised by some of the lingering misconceptions people seem to have about our program. So, let me set the record straight when it comes to Michigan Ross EMBA fact and fiction.

FICTION: The Ross EMBA Program is only for C-Suite executives.

FACT: Our program is designed by Ross faculty to speak to the needs of individuals in cross-functional roles of strategic leadership within their organization, regardless of title. In fact, our committee regularly admits senior managers, directors, and VPs as well as founders, presidents, and C-suite executives. An individual's career progression and level of responsibility mean much more to our committee than their titles.

FICTION: The Ross Executive MBA Program is designed for individuals looking for an executive education-type experience.

FACT: While it’s true that EMBA programs at other institutions may, in fact, be more executive education experiences, ours is not. The EMBA program at Michigan Ross is a full MBA curriculum with all of the intensity and rigor that other Ross MBA students experience in their programs. In addition, the degree earned at the end of our program is the same credential conferred on other MBA graduates at Ross, including full- and part-time students.

Ross has a top-ranked Executive Education department that can provide wonderful executive education certificate-type programs for those looking for more of a non-degree educational experience.

FICTION: The Ross Executive MBA Program is designed for business professionals and people with lengthy experience in more corporate settings.

FACT: Last year, the Michigan Ross EMBA program cohort included individuals from more than 30 different industries, 22 different US states, and nine countries. We admitted physicians, military professionals, attorneys, and clergy members in addition to other more traditional business professionals.

Our curriculum is designed to help students build on their wealth of experience across a variety of industries and show them how to apply that experience to the larger and more challenging environments they will encounter as they continue to progress in their careers.

FICTION: The Ross EMBA Program is off limits to Buckeyes, Fighting Irish, Spartans, and/or other sworn enemies of the Wolverines.

FACT: We welcome students with degrees from a multitude of undergraduate and graduate institutions. I, myself, am a proud Spartan, but have always been made to feel at home here at the Ross School of Business. I’m sure you will, too.

Please consider joining us for an admissions event where you can experience what a welcoming culture and community we have here at Michigan Ross.
