My name is Jada Kavanagh, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new director of admissions for the Michigan Ross Full-Time MBA Program. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and drawing on my experience to help shape this year’s incoming class. Prior to stepping into this role, I have been reading applications for the FTMBA Program for over a decade.

In this blog post today, I want to share one important thing I’ve learned over the past 10+ years in admissions: strong candidates apply in every round!

Round 3 never fails to introduce applicants with fresh perspectives, new ideas, and big plans for the business world. At Michigan Ross, your journey matters far more to us than your timeline. While myths swirl around final application rounds on social media, we know from experience that every applicant brings something special, regardless of when they hit submit.

I’m here to set the record straight: applying in Round 3 is a great opportunity for candidates who are ready to take their next step. Let’s debunk a few myths and spotlight the benefits of applying in the final round!

Round 3 Myths vs. Facts

Myth #1: “All the seats are gone by Round 3.”

Fact: We take the responsibility of reviewing applications very seriously. Our admissions process is holistic and individualized. We ensure that each applicant, regardless of when they apply, receives the same full and fair review of their application as in previous rounds. Whether you apply in September or March, your story and achievements are equally valued.

Myth #2: “No scholarships for late applicants.”

Fact: Round 3 applicants are fully eligible for merit-based scholarships and fellowships. We’re committed to rewarding excellence and supporting diverse talent, regardless of when you submit your application.

Myth #3: “International applicants can’t apply in Round 3.”

Fact: We welcome international students throughout the spring and expect their visa processing to proceed smoothly. However, we ask you to be prepared to submit your visa documents promptly. Unlike students admitted in earlier rounds who had more flexibility, you will need to respond quickly and be ready to act as soon as possible.

Why Applying in Round 3 Could Be an Advantage

By this stage, you may have had more time to polish your essays and resume, and gather additional achievements or experiences that strengthen your application. Round 3 often offers a fresh perspective for reviewers, and your application may stand out in a smaller candidate pool. Many Round 3 admits go on to become leaders, club presidents, and student ambassadors. Your later application can be a catalyst for big impact.

Fresh Achievements:

Perhaps you were promoted, switched fields, or completed a major project recently. Round 3 is the perfect place to showcase your accomplishments. Your application might be stronger with the additional time you’ve invested in professional development.

Reflective Applications:

A few extra months can help you clarify your goals, polish your essays, and strengthen your narrative. Sometimes, your candidacy stands out even more for the added thought and maturity it shows.

Flexible Pathways:

Not everyone discovers their MBA ambitions in the fall. There’s no “right” timeline, only the one that’s right for you.

We Are Ready When You Are

If you’re prepared, don’t second-guess your timing. Round 3 applicants are welcomed and celebrated at Ross. Your unique journey makes our community special. We look forward to reading your application and discovering how your experiences will help shape the future of Michigan Ross.
