Tackling the Part-Time MBA Application Test Requirement
At Michigan Ross, we know that every applicant’s background is unique—which is why we offer three flexible options to meet the test requirement for our Part-Time MBA Programs. Each path is equally valid in the eyes of the admissions committee. What matters most is demonstrating your readiness to succeed in a rigorous, analytically driven MBA environment—no matter how you get there.
There are three ways you can satisfy the test requirement for the Online or Weekend MBA applications, starting in 2026:
- Take a standardized test:
- GMAT or GMAT Focus Edition
- GRE
- Executive Assessment - Meet the test waiver criteria
- Take the free Michigan Ross Quantitative Readiness Course. You must achieve a minimum score of 80% on the final exam.
We are often asked if one option is more favorable than the other to fulfill the test requirements.
Simply, no.
A standardized test is not the only way an application can demonstrate their readiness for the program. Completing the QRC or receiving a test waiver in lieu of a standardized test is not looked at negatively by the admissions committee. The committee does not look at an application differently with a QRC, test waiver, or a standardized test. Each path is equally valid and designed to help you demonstrate your readiness for the program.
The QRC, developed by faculty here at Ross, is a great way to meet the test requirement but also a valuable preparation tool for an MBA. Not only does the QRC provide relevant MBA quantitative learning, but also is a preview for life as a part-time student. Completing the QRC requires time management and commitment, much like balancing work and coursework in the program. This course is a great way to see what life would look like going to work during the day and completing MBA coursework at night.
A standardized test waiver may be granted to a small pool of experienced, academically and professionally, high-performing candidates. If you meet the criteria you can apply for a test waiver within your application.
