Our early Online MBA application deadline is just around the corner on March 23, so this is a perfect time to share some insights on the different stages of the application process to help build on what is shared on each program’s applications requirements page.

Step 1: Research & Prepare

Start by exploring the program details: curriculum, schedule, and admission requirements. Make note of deadlines and requirements, your future self will thank you for planning ahead!

Step 2: Gather Your Materials

You’ll need transcripts, test section requirements, a one-page resume, essays, and you’ll need to choose a recommender. Getting organized early can help things go smoothly later on.

Step 3: Write Your Essays

Bring your authentic self to your application essays. Reflect on your career goals, leadership experiences, and why a Michigan Ross Part-Time MBA fits your ambitions. Write what is true to you. Do not write what you think the admissions committee wants to hear. They want to get to know the real you and how you would play a part in the student class. Do not feel like your second essay needs to be about work, you can write something more personal - just be sure to choose a topic that helps us get to know you better.

Step 4: Letters of Recommendation—Choosing Your Recommender

Ideally, your recommendation will be completed by your current supervisor. Do not choose a recommender due to their work title. Select the recommender who knows your professional strengths, leadership style, and work ethic personally. If you choose someone who is not your current supervisor, we suggest writing why in your optional essay. For example, some applicants will write they just switched jobs two months ago so they chose their previous supervisor because they worked together for four years. You will be required to input your recommender’s email in the application. This will send the recommendation form via email to be completed.

Pro tip: Give them plenty of time and context so their letters help you shine!

Step 5: Review & Submit

Attention to detail is a sign of a good candidate. Double-check all materials, proofread your essays, and ensure your recommendations are submitted on time. Hit submit and celebrate completing a huge step toward your goals!

Step 6: Prepare for the Interview

Applicants who demonstrate the qualities we are looking for in a Ross MBA are invited to the next step in the application process: a virtual interview. This is another chance for the admissions committee to get to know you further. Preparation is key: review your essays and resume, anticipate questions about your career journey and why you’re pursuing a Part-Time MBA at Ross. Be ready to discuss examples that highlight your leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Breathe deeply and let your enthusiasm and authenticity shine!

Once the online application is submitted, the admissions team will review to confirm all sections are complete. If anything is missing, the team will reach out to you via email. On average, it will take six-eight weeks after submitting your application to hear a final decision (including interview time).
