Prospective Part-Time MBA students often ask us, “What are my chances of getting in?” They’ll share their GPA, test scores, years of work experience, job title, or resume highlights hoping for a clear answer.

We understand the question. Applying to an MBA program is a big decision, and it’s natural to want to know where you stand. But the truth is: there is no formula for admission to the Michigan Ross Part-Time MBA Programs. There is no set of boxes an applicant needs to check off or requirements that automatically disqualify a candidate or guarantee admission.

What the admissions committee is looking for

The admissions committee does not look for one specific profile, background, industry, GPA, test score, or career path. Instead, we review applications holistically, meaning we consider the full picture of who you are, what you’ve done, and what you hope to achieve. Reviewing applications holistically allows the committee to build a class with a variety of different experiences and knowledge. The variety of expertise among peers is one of the qualities that set the Michigan Ross MBA apart.

Academic readiness matters, but it is only one part of the application. Professional experience, leadership potential, career goals, communication skills, recommendation, essays, and fit with the Ross community all help us understand your story.

We also know that leadership and impact can look different for every applicant. Some candidates have formal management experience; others have led projects, influenced teams, solved complex problems, mentored colleagues, or made meaningful contributions in their organizations or communities. All of these experiences help differentiate candidates who can contribute to a vibrant class.

That’s why we can’t predict an admissions decision based on stats alone. Two applicants with similar measurables may have very different experiences, goals, and strengths.

Tell us your why

Our advice: focus less on trying to match a “perfect” profile and more on submitting a thoughtful, authentic application. Spend time reflecting on your reasons for applying and explore the best way to articulate it. Tell us why a Part-Time MBA makes sense for you, why now is the right time, and how Michigan Ross fits into your goals. Bring your authentic self to the application. The strengths and experiences you bring to the class may be very different from those of another applicant, and that is OK.

There is no specific quality or experience we are looking for, in fact, we are looking for a broad variety of experiences and qualities to build the richest learning environment for our students. We consider the full picture of each applicant, and we look forward to getting to know you through your application journey!
