The Ross School of Business has made it easier for students from non-accounting backgrounds to succeed in the Master of Accounting Program through a new summer semester that includes two prerequisite courses.

The MAcc Paton Summer Immersion is designed for students from non-accounting undergraduate backgrounds who want to immerse themselves in the industry before starting their MAcc Program in the fall. Over 14 weeks between May and August, students will build industry knowledge and skills through workshops and events, gain exposure to accounting firms, and complete prerequisite courses for the MAcc Program.

All applicants to the fall MAcc Program must complete five total prerequisite courses before the start of their degree: Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Microeconomics, Statistics or Business Statistics, Principles of Managerial Accounting, and Intermediate Financial Accounting.

The new MAcc Paton Summer Immersion curriculum allows students to complete two of these five courses with Ross faculty (Intermediate Financial Accounting and Principles of Managerial Accounting), plus a professional development seminar designed to build skills such as executive presence and interviewing. The other three courses may be completed at any accredited institution before the start of the MAcc Program.

All admits to this new program will also receive a scholarship of at least $25,000 in tuition support, to be applied across the three MAcc Program semesters.

“We are excited to provide our incoming MAcc students, particularly students who may have a non-traditional accounting undergraduate background, with these additional resources and opportunities so they can make the most of their experience in the fall,” said Andrea McHale, managing director of Michigan Ross One-Year Master’s Programs. “This summer experience provides an accessible new path to the program and gives our students more options as they complete their five MAcc prerequisite classes. Additionally, the Paton Summer Immersion creates valuable experience and exposure to accounting with Ross faculty and industry firms.”

Prospective students interested in applying to join the first MAcc Paton Summer Immersion Scholars group next year can apply now by choosing ‘Summer Immersion’ instead of ‘Fall Start’ when filling out their OYM MAcc application. The Round 1 deadline for the MAcc Program is Sept. 11, 2026.
