Vijay Pandiarajan
Vijay Pandiarajan is a faculty member in the Technology and Operations area at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. He brings over twenty years of hands-on global leadership experience across digital transformation, technology strategy, and supply chain innovation. Before joining academia, he held senior roles at Verizon Wireless, Whirlpool Corporation, and Accenture, and consulted for organizations like Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Siemens Westinghouse, Boston Scientific, Paccar, Manitowoc, Kodak, and Ford/Visteon.
At Ross, Vijay teaches courses including Business Information Systems (TO 300), AI Enabled Integrated Business Innovation (TO 416), and Integrated Business Innovation with AI (WMBA 621). He also mentors student teams through the Multidisciplinary Action Projects Supply Chain Programs and the Tauber Institute for Global Operations. His teaching and research sit at the intersection of digital transformation, AI, business innovation, and supply chain management.
He is the author of two books published by Routledge: Business Innovation: A Case Study Approach (2022) and Integrated Business Innovation: Case Studies and Frameworks in Design Thinking and AI for Business Excellence (2025). A Sloan Fellow from MIT, he earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from West Virginia University. His work has been featured on Marketplace and National Public Radio.
Vijay is recognized by Poets & Quants as one of the 2025 Top 50 Best Undergraduate Business Professors (https://lnkd.in/enagkhyt).
In 2025, Vijay was named a Michigan Road Scholar, a university-wide initiative connecting faculty with communities across the state. Through this program, he weaves economic development and community priorities directly into his teaching and research.
Vijay began his career at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru, where he was selected through a competitive national search as an elite technical management trainee, eventually advancing to engineer and deputy manager. At HAL, he worked alongside Rolls-Royce, McDonnell Douglas, Turbomeca, and British Aerospace on the production of Jaguar fighter aircraft, an experience that sparked his lasting passion for technology-driven business innovation, supply chain excellence, and large-scale systems thinking.
