How to Strengthen Your Application Without a Test Score

With the Round 2 deadline less than two months away, I know many applicants are still feeling anxious about their standardized test scores, especially if you’ve already taken a test multiple times.

First and foremost, take a moment to review our class profile page. In addition to averages, we also share test score ranges so you can get a more accurate understanding of the students we admit. Remember, admissions is rarely black and white, so don’t let a number discourage you from submitting your application.

I also want to highlight our Statement of Quantitative Academic Readiness as a great alternative if you are not a strong test taker or if you feel your score isn’t a valid reflection of your abilities. One of the biggest benefits of our process is that you can choose upfront to submit this in place of a test score. There is no separate test waiver application or extra step required at Ross. This really simplifies things and allows you to have control over the best way to present your academic readiness.

Both the test score and the statement are also equally evaluated for our merit-based scholarships at the time of admission, so you are not at a disadvantage if you choose to submit a statement. For many applicants, this actually allows them to present a stronger, more complete application.

In the statement, we’re looking for multiple points of evidence that demonstrate your preparedness for the program's rigor without requiring a test score submission. This can include, but is not limited to:

  • A master’s degree in an analytical or quantitative discipline
  • A CFA, CPA, or international equivalent
  • A strong undergraduate or graduate record, especially in analytical or quantitative courses
  • Post-graduate, full-time work experience in an analytical or quantitative function
  • Strong scores on exams such as the MCAT, LSAT, PCAT, DAT, or OAT

If you’re not sure what to include or how we evaluate these statements, I highly suggest watching the Quick Tips video below. It walks you through how to make your statement as compelling as possible.
