Michigan Is Well Positioned for Sustainable Economic Growth, Ross Professor Says
Michigan Ross Professor David Brophy is optimistic about the state’s ability to build a more sustainable economy.
In a new interview published on the Michigan Advance website, Brophy discusses Michigan’s improved climate for venture capital over the years — which he helped create, by founding U-M’s Center for Venture Capital and Private Equity Finance, the annual Midwest Capital Growth Symposium, and other initiatives.
“The old story by VCs is, ‘Have the company move here and we’ll look at them,’ ” Brophy tells business journalist Rick Haglund in the interview. “‘They don’t do that anymore. They’d rather you stay where the cost of living is low. And we have the talent. All of this augurs well” for Michigan.
David Brophy is a professor of finance at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.
