In the Supply Chain Consulting Studio, Michigan Ross MSCM Students Gained Real-World Experience Working on Seven Projects With Multinational Corporations

By Bridget Vis

From improving online customer experience to recommending a global trade data strategy, students in the Master of Supply Chain Management Program at the Ross School of Business applied their classroom learning to take on seven challenging projects during the Supply Chain Consulting Studio course this year.

Divided into small teams, the Michigan Ross MSCM students worked on a diverse set of supply chain issues facing global companies, spanning a range of sizes and industries — from beauty to automotive and medical technologies. At the end of the projects, the teams presented their strategic recommendations directly to members of the sponsoring companies.

Taking place during the second term in the MSCM program, the Supply Chain Consulting Studio course provides students with an impactful, action-based learning opportunity to test their newly acquired skills and knowledge — and it delivers insightful recommendations to sponsoring companies.

“I think the consulting studio is a great culmination for the MSCM program,” said Konrad Jeppesen, MSCM ’21, who worked on a project with Radial Inc. “I was able to apply what I learned during the previous eight months in a way that benefitted a real company. It was a perfect way to get more experience in the industry I want to have a career in.”

Likewise, Manan Narula, MSCM ’21, said his studio project with Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Mississippi was the highlight of his time at Michigan Ross. Narula and his team spent two weeks at the company’s plant conducting interviews and analyses to identify ways its operations could gain efficiency through automation.

After participating in a consulting project during an elective course earlier, the project proved to be another tangible real-world experience Narula used to help land his supply chain consulting job at Deloitte in Chicago. “During job interviews, I had a ton of work experience to talk about,” he said.
