Michael Muhammad Somantri

Class of 2025

Hello! I'm from Indonesia. Before Ross, I worked as a drilling engineer at an O&G company, where I was assigned to develop well planning for future offshore development wells. I came to Michigan to pivot my career to work in the intersection of business and sustainability. As a dual-degree student with the Erb Institute, I spent last summer working with DTE Energy to develop a novel social life cycle assessment (S-LCA) framework for the carbon capture sequestration (CCS) project. Post-Ross, I aim to work for an investment firm to expand the energy and sustainability verticals. I'm in the process of developing my own investment thesis with the hope that I can establish an investment firm in my home country sometime in the future. My interest emphasizes the impact of investing in accelerating innovation pipelines, particularly in sustainable energy systems and climate technologies.

I'm an avid runner and golfer. Right now, I'm in a marathon training program and will run in the Philadelphia Marathon this Fall. Ask me anything about pivoting career, running, living abroad, being a dual-degree student or just life in general. Go Blue!
