Nicol J. L. Coelho
I was born and and brought up in Karachi, Pakistan. Post my undergraduate degree, I worked for 8 years in global pharmaceuticals Eli Lilly and Company and Novo Nordisk in emerging markets (Middle East, South-East Asia, Saudi Arabia, Asia Pacific and South Africa). I started my career within the medical department with exposure to sales and then transitioned into the Digital Strategy and Transformation space, partnering with senior leadership to define roadmaps and lead cross-functional teams developing Omnichannel Customer Engagement campaigns while additionally collaborating with global and regional teams to pilot, validate and deploy Digital Platform solutions. Working within healthcare showed me the impact we can have in changing peoples lives, specifically those living with serious chronic diseases. Unfortunately, it also highlighted the inequalities and flaws in healthcare access, product supply and healthcare systems.. The desire to first understand this complex sector, enhance my business acumen, become a more effective leader and connect with like-minded individuals to improve and make a positive impact in the lives of others and the world was what led me to pursue my MBA.
Over the course of evaluating many top business schools, University of Michigan's Ross School of Business stood out as the best program with the most holistic approach to academics and practical excellence. It is unique, as one of the only MBA programs to have an intense emphasis on experiential education through its action-based learning approach, providing numerous projects that offer real-life experience and allowing students to have the space to make mistakes, learn and develop transferable skills applicable to the real world. My decision was cemented when I spoke with alumni and current Ross MBA students- the enthusiasm and out-pouring of incredible support and guidance to someone they had not known before resonated with me and made me realize the collaborative strength of the Ross community.
I came to Ross wanting more than a two-year MBA; I was embraced into a welcoming community where I have and will make lifelong connections and I found an incredibly diverse and seriously talented cohort of peers who came from all corners of the globe and have experience of working in industries I could not have imagined.
Just as alumni and students have done for me and others before me, as a Student Ambassador I feel privileged to share my experience and help you on your journey to come to Ross. Feel free connect or send a message across to get to know about life at Ross, the many on and off-campus opportunities, the finance and healthcare industry, living in Ann Arbor or anything else that may come to mind.
