Richie Ortmann

Leadership is most tested when the path forward is uncertain. Across military combat aviation, U.S. service academy instruction, venture capital, business school, and high-growth organizations, I have consistently operated in environments where the stakes are high and decisions must be made with incomplete information.

Plans rarely unfold exactly as expected. Effective leaders must adapt quickly, communicate clearly, and guide teams through complexity when the path forward is not obvious.

My professional interests sit at the intersection of leadership, human performance, and organizational performance in high-stakes environments.

I recently earned my MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and will soon begin a new position as an Operations Manager at H.L. Bowman Inc. in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I am also a co-owner of PrimeTone Siren & Co.

Before business school, I spent 13 years as a U.S. Army Aviation Officer. I served as an Apache Attack Helicopter Pilot, Air Mission Commander, Attack Reconnaissance Company Commander, Senior Brigade Logistics Officer, and H2F and Combatives Instructor on the faculty at West Point. Across assignments in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Europe, I led aviation operations and teams both large and small in complex environments where decisions were made under pressure and with incomplete information. These experiences shaped my leadership philosophy and earned me induction into the Order of Saint Michael for excellence in Army Aviation.

I am cleared Top Secret / SCI.

Beyond my professional work, I have always pursued performance and discipline in other arenas. I am a rated commercial pilot, former JUCO baseball player, bodybuilding gold medalist, six-time marathon finisher, and BJJ practitioner. I hold graduate degrees from Texas A&M and Michigan, an undergraduate degree from Michigan State, am a Certified Master Teacher, a CSCS-certified strength and conditioning coach, and volunteer as a youth sports coach.

I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped my path so far and focused on building a high-impact business career where leadership, strategy, and strong relationships help organizations navigate change and perform at their highest level.
