2025 Michigan Ross Faculty Awards & Honors
At the Ross School of Business, our faculty are often recognized for their excellence and impact in many different fields. This past year, they’ve earned awards and honors that showcase their leadership, innovative research, and important contributions to their disciplines. Below is a look at some of their recent accomplishments.
Sue Ashford, Michael & Susan Janerdoa Professor of Management and Organizations, received the 2025 Administrative Science Quarterly Award for Scholarly Contribution. This award recognizes a paper published five years ago that has had a major influence on the field of organization studies. Her winning paper is titled “Agony and Ecstasy in the Gig Economy: Cultivating Holding Environments for Precarious and Personalized Work Identities.”
Tom Buchmueller, Waldo O. Hildebrand Professor of Risk Management and Insurance, and area chair and professor of business economics and public policy, served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 2023 to 2025.
The American Planning Association selected Brian Connolly, assistant professor of business law, to serve on a working group focused on “America’s housing comeback.”
The Manufacturing and Service Operations Management group elected Izak Duenyas, Herrick Professor of Business and area chair and professor of technology and operations, as a 2025 Distinguished Fellow.
The European Corporate Governance Institute appointed David Hess, Everett E. Berg Professor of Business Administration and area chair and professor of business law, as a research member.
Sam Keppler, assistant professor of technology and operations, made Poets&Quants’ 2025 list of “Best 40-Under-40 MBA Professors.”
Anant Nyshadham, associate professor for business economics and public policy, earned the 2024 Royal Economic Society Prize for his article, “Helping Children Catch Up: Early Life Shocks and the PROGRESA Experiment.” The article enhanced understanding of how governments can mitigate the negative effects of economic shocks on children and adolescents.
Scott Page, Williamson Family Professor of Business Administration and professor of management and operations, joined the National Academy of Sciences as a newly elected fellow.
Eric Schwartz, associate professor of marketing, won the 2025 Robert J. Lavidge Marketing Research Award, which recognizes scholars whose research has practical implications. Schwartz received the award for his work with Blue Conduit, through which he created the first-ever data-driven approach to removing infrastructure-produced hazards.
Shirli Kopelman, clinical professor of management and organizations, received the 2025 NCMR Article of the Year Award for her paper, “Can Confidence Influence Persuasiveness in Disagreements by Conveying Competence versus Dominance? The Moderating Role of Competitiveness.”
The Academy of Management’s Strategic Management Division elected Brian Wu, Robert G. Rodkey Collegiate Professor of Business Administration and professor of strategy, as its chair.
Rajeev Batra, Sebastian S. Kresge Professor of Marketing, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the AMA Branding SIG for his ongoing contributions to the field of branding.
M.S. Krishnan, Accenture Professor of Computer Information Systems and professor of technology and operations, received the INFORMS ISS Distinguished Fellow Award. This award honors individuals who have made outstanding intellectual contributions to the field of information systems.
Poets&Quants named Andy Hoffman, Holcim (US), Inc. Professor of Sustainable Enterprise, 2025 MBA Professor of the Year. Hoffman received this award in recognition of his course, Management as a Calling (MO 635), which encourages students to view business not just as a tool for wealth creation, but as a vehicle for purpose.
Andrew Wu, associate professor of technology and operations, earned first runner-up honors for the 2025 Gartner Eye on Innovation Awards. This award recognizes colleges and universities that use technology to improve education.
Lilia Cortina, professor of management and organizations, received the University of Michigan Regents’ Award for Distinguished Public Service. This award recognizes individuals who have made contributions to public service activities related to teaching and research, and that reflect professional and academic expertise. Cortina received this award for her work on sexual harassment and hostile work environments.
Scott Rick, associate professor of marketing, and Vijay Pandiarajan, lecturer of technology and operations, made Poets&Quants’ list of “2025 Best Undergraduate Business Professors.”
