DEI Academic Conference Honors Michigan Ross Professor Amiyatosh Purnanandam with Research Award

Purnanandam and coauthor Taylor Begley — a University of Kentucky assistant professor who is a Michigan Ross PhD alum — won second place in the Bradford-Osborne Research Award competition for their paper “Color and Credit: Race, Regulation, and the Quality of Financial Services.” Their research found that federal regulations aimed at ensuring equal access to credit can actually create lower-quality offerings for minority and low-income borrowers.

Purnanandam and Begley presented their research as part of the inaugural conference of the Tenure Project, which is a new national effort to increase the number of junior business faculty of color who receive tenure. Michigan Ross is a gold sponsor of the Tenure Project.

The Bradford-Osborne Research Award recognizes excellence in scholarly research on entrepreneurship and business ownership by under-represented minority individuals, families, and communities in the U.S.  

“It was an honor to receive the award in the inaugural session of the Tenure Project,” Purnanandam said.
