Connor Baker, MM '16
Like many students, Connor Baker, MM ‘16, finished his undergraduate degree and realized the career he had been pursuing just wasn’t for him. His international relations degree was supposed to be a stepping stone to law school, but that interest was overshadowed by a passion for business.
Connor says, “A friend of mine graduated with a Master of Management from Ross, and the program sounded right up my alley.”
It was tailored to my exact situation as a non-business major.
He appreciated learning about business from a broad, across-the-board perspective. “Coming into the program I didn’t know the language of business. Now I can speak intelligently about these subjects and know I will be understood.”
Connor is using his newfound business skills at GM Financial as he prepares for work abroad in Bogotá. “I started at GM Financial last January and I love it. I’m in a three-year rotational program where I work a new job each year. I’m currently working in a pricing role doing some coding and pricing for new vehicles.”
In Bogotá, Connor will be doing a series of mini rotations in operations. He’ll work at different locations to find out what they do in branches on the ground level.
Best of all, Connor sees additional opportunities to fulfill his wanderlust in the future. “There is a group called new markets and strategic initiatives. They travel a lot, laying groundwork in new markets. That sounds really exciting.”
“I wouldn’t be in the position I am without the Ross MM Program — I wouldn’t have even gotten an interview. The school and the program have a great reputation. I am really prepared for the work I’m doing now.”
