Arrival in the U.S.

International Center

Throughout your time with the university, you can rely on the university’s International Center for support services, general information, orientation, and advice about visa and immigration issues, employment, cross-cultural issues, taxation, health insurance, and other practical concerns. In addition, the International Center’s website offers a detailed list of international student organizations on campus.

You must attend a 2 1/2-hour mandatory check-in program in order to comply with U.S. Department of Homeland Security requirements. We also recommend attending International Center orientation workshops.  Check-in with the International Center will be held in conjunction with the Ross International Student Orientation.  Details including specific dates can be found with your I-20 or DS-2019.

The Global MBA Office will send you detailed information about the mandatory check-in, including the check-in time and location, and the documents that you will need to bring to the mandatory check-in. Please review this information carefully, since failure to complete your check-in on time will end your lawful immigration status.

Entry into the United States

You will need a passport from your government, an F-1 eligibility document (Form I-20), and a visa from a U.S. consulate or embassy to be eligible to enter the United States. Your passport must be valid throughout your entire stay in the United States, and it must be valid for at least six months into the future from the day you return to the U.S. from a trip abroad. Check your passport revalidation procedure at your country’s consulate or at your embassy in Washington, D.C.
