Transforming Futures: $2 Million Gift Launches New Graduate Scholarship Fund
The University of Michigan Ross School of Business is proud to announce the establishment of a transformative new scholarship fund, thanks to a generous bequest from Sha Wen and Jasper Zeng. The Sha Wen and Jasper Zeng Scholarship Fund, established through a $2 million bequest, will significantly impact graduate students at Michigan Ross, particularly those pursuing a Master of Accounting (MAcc) degree.
Sha Wen, MAcc ’03, reflected on her decision to give back, saying, “Studying at Michigan Ross was instrumental in shaping my career. The graduate assistantship I received covered half of my tuition, which was crucial in starting my journey in public accounting and later in international finance. I want to extend the same support to future MAcc students, so they can focus on their studies without the financial burden.”
Wen’s passion for accounting stems from its fundamental role in business. “Accounting is the language of business,” she said. “It is essential for understanding, analyzing, and interpreting financial data, which is crucial in fields like international finance and macroeconomics.”
Wen, who works in an advisory role for an international organization focusing on Southeast Asia, was deeply influenced by her time in Ann Arbor. “My journey began at Ross. Without the MAcc program, I wouldn’t have had the opportunities that followed,” she said. “My role now involves modernizing and reforming financial reporting in the governmental sector, a task I’m deeply committed to.”
The new scholarship fund will be directed towards students in the MAcc program, with a special emphasis on women. Wen expresses her hopes for the fund, saying, “I hope this scholarship alleviates financial stress for students, allowing them to concentrate on their education and enjoy their time at Ann Arbor. Supporting women through this scholarship is particularly important to me. I want to provide financial security and instill confidence, empowering women to pursue careers in accounting and business.”
Wen also extended her gratitude to her family and Michigan Ross. “I am deeply grateful to the MAcc program and the University of Michigan. I also want to thank my husband and daughters for their support in making this donation possible.”
This new scholarship fund is a testament to Sha Wen and Jasper Zeng’s commitment to nurturing future leaders in accounting, ensuring that the opportunities they have received will continue to benefit generations of students at the Ross School of Business.
