Check Out These Groundbreaking New Classes in the Full-Time MBA Program at Michigan Ross This Year

Each school year brings a new selection of innovative courses to Michigan Ross, as the school updates its curriculum to stay ahead of the dynamic world of business. 

Here are some of the classes making their debut in the Ross Full-Time MBA Program this year:

The Science of Success: Who Succeeds, Who Doesn't, and Why (MO600) - Paula Caproni: This course provides students with conceptual frameworks and skills that will help them attain more  meaningful results at work, achieve career goals, and craft a fulfilling life overall — regardless of the particular jobs or professions they choose. Based on decades of research about the beliefs and behaviors that predict success, this class offers an opportunity to creatively consider multiple visions of a life well lived and design a happy, healthy, and productive life.

+Impact Studio: Translating Research into Practice (BA 670) - Jeffrey Sanchez-Burks: The +Impact Studio teaches interdisciplinary student teams how to use scholarly intellectual capital, business acumen, and design methodologies to address a wicked problem — an issue with societal import, that is difficult to understand, and is embedded within complex systems. Teams will be seeded with novel, university-generated intellectual capital that may provide a critical piece of the puzzle to making a sustainable, scalable positive impact. 

The Psychology of Start-Up Teams (ES/MO 602) - Lindy Greer: Nine out of 10 startup teams fail, primarily due to the people dynamics within the team. This is one of the first courses in the world to specifically focus on the people challenges in a startup. The course will provide students with the tools, skills, and experiences needed to successfully manage the people dynamics within startup teams. 

International Investment Fund (ES/FIN 704) - Gautam Kaul: The William Davidson Institute and Michigan Ross are establishing a curriculum-based, student-run international investment fund, believed to be the first of its kind at a U.S. university. The International Investment Fund will target small- and medium-sized enterprises in India. Students will be responsible for investing, managing, and growing the investment portfolio.

Healthcare Startups: Understanding Needs and Creating Ventures in Healthcare (ES 620) - Mike Johnson: This course explores how to identify   big problems in healthcare and how to solve them  with a new venture proposal. Participants will study  study healthcare trends and challenges, learn methods to explore healthcare domains, identify and understand needs, and develop startup hypotheses. A team project will develop a proposal for an innovative healthcare venture.

ES/MO 640 - Building Healthy Business - Stewart Thornhill: In this course, students will learn about opportunities to create and capture value in the health, wellness, and personal resiliency sectors; develop tools and methods to implement practices in their workplaces that contribute to wellness and resiliency among all employees; and learn to apply wellness tools and practices in life. 

Real Estate Development in Practice (FIN 563) - Zachary Sheinberg: This course explores how to confidently evaluate and plan a real estate development project. The course will start with a comprehensive underwriting of a real estate development project, followed by the primary steps of real estate development: acquisition, debt financing, equity financing, architecture/engineering/design, and project management/construction. 

Business in Democracy: Advocacy, Lobbying, and the Public Interest (MO 510) - Andy Hoffman: This course explores the role of government in the market and the role of business in policy-making. Participants will also explore the proper and necessary balance by which government and business can work in the 21st century.  

Customer Experience Value Creation (MKT 650) - Venkatram Ramaswamy: The future of value creation lies in the interactional creation of valuable impacts of experienced outcomes. This course will expose students to value creation through customer interactions, connected offerings, the customer journey of engagement, and design thinking.
