The Michigan Sales and Business Development Certificate has been an incredible experience for me! It’s an effective and efficient way to learn about sales and is a certification that I believe everyone can benefit from. No matter what your field of study is, I can attest that this program is welcoming to all!

What You’ll Study

To complete the Certificate, you'll need to take 12 credits and receive a grade (no pass/fail) from these courses:

Additionally, we offer a specialized workshop to help students hone their negotiation skills.

What You’ll Do

At Michigan Ross, we believe the best way to learn something is by doing it. That’s why you’ll also have the chance to take part in a number of action-based learning opportunities related to sales. From internships and membership in the Michigan Sales Club to showing off your skills in competitions and getting to speak with sales professionals, there’s no shortage of ways to keep actively learning outside the classroom.

And when it’s time to start applying for jobs, our Career Development Office will help connect you with companies ready to hire. Michigan Sales and Business Development students have put their skills to use at major companies like LinkedIn, IBM, P&G, and Bloomberg, just to name a few.

Application Criteria

The Michigan Sales and Business Development Certificate limits its annual enrollment to approximately 300 students. Our enrollment decisions hinge on exceptional academic performance and a demonstrated interest in sales. Students entering their junior or senior year are eligible to apply.

Exceptional Academic Performance

We seek students whose academic records demonstrate strong grades and challenging coursework. While it's not mandatory for students to have completed any of the required courses for admission, we value seeing candidates who have engaged in such coursework to enhance their comprehension of sales principles. We welcome all interested students to apply; however, most of our students maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The average GPA of accepted applicants over the past five years has been 3.64.

Program Interest Statement

We are interested in applicants who can differentiate themselves by articulating their career goals and expressing how participation in the Michigan Sales and Business Development Certificate will assist them in achieving those goals. We prioritize candidates who can respond to the following questions with genuine interest, clear examples, and specific details:

  • Why are you interested in the Michigan Sales and Business Development Certificate? More specifically, why are you interested in a career in sales, and how does that relate to your chosen major?
  • Are you interested in business-to-business (B2B) or business-to-consumer sales (B2C), and why?
